Who Made It: Harkiss Designs works with talented men and women in Uganda and Kenya. Harkiss was started by Harriet Zaffoni, a Ugandan woman who became a New York designer. Her aim is to provide East African women with the assistance they need to turn their generations-old artisan tradition into a bright, new economic future for their families and communities. Her first-hand knowledge of the communities and the indigenous resources inform her designs, while her experience as a New York businesswoman gives her an insider’s understanding of the styles and accessories most in demand in the American marketplace.
Materials: Olive Wood & Bone
Wood Care: Hand wash and let air dry. Not dishwasher or microwave safe. To preserve the wood polish with vegetable oil.
Batik Bone: Batik Bone is cow bone that has been dyed with black, that gives off the different designs. The bone is a by-product meaning the cow is not killed solely for the purpose of getting the bone.
