This brooch is handcrafted of painted gourd, laser-cut fabrics, and swarovski crystals. Designed and crafted by Indigenous Mokaná and Afro-Colombians in Northern Colombia. Tulia Artisans is a proud member of the Fair Trade Federation, Chicago Fair Trade, and the Museum Store Association.
Who Made It: Tulia’s Artisan Gallery is a Chicago-based woman-owned business with a mission to showcase high quality Colombian craftsmanship by collaborating with master artisans who preserve & strengthen the diverse cultures of Colombia. Tulia’s Artisan Gallery uses fair trade principles while collaborating with artisan partners, most of whom are indigenous or Afro-Colombians. A portion of each sale is given back to the Wounaan community in Colombia for projects in health and cultural preservation since the Wounaan are continuously displaced by the armed conflict in Colombia's Pacific coast. The Wounaan are indigenous to the rainforests of the Pacific coast of Colombia and Panama. In Colombia, about 9,000 are at risk of cultural extinction due to forced internal displacement.
