Mozambican artisans craft beautiful maracas from calabash gourds and soft wood handles. Each gourd is hand painted and etched with geometric designs. Sold individually. Because this is a handcrafted item, each will vary slightly.
Who Made It: Swahili Modern is a fair trade company that works directly with artisans in several African countries including Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda and Zambia. Artisan communities have reliable long-term income sources and it provides vital employment for rural women in particular.
