Tagua is a form of vegetable ivory harvested from ivory palms in South America. It is viewed as a sustainable alternative to ivory derived from animals, and responsible cultivation and harvesting of tagua may also help with rain forest conservation in South America.

Who Made It: The main focus at PamPeana is to work with individuals of lower education and economic resources providing opportunities that allow them to have a more stable environment and help them move from a position of vulnerability to one of security and economic self-sufficiency. PamPeana is a women-owned business and aims to empower these individuals by encouraging them to become stakeholders in their own organizations and to actively play a wider role in the design and development of handcrafted products. PamPeana works with recycled and renewable materials that allow us to have little or no impact on the environment. PamPeana operations impact the lives of over 70 families outside the USA and over 20 families within the USA.
