Caramelized Onions

These gorgeous, crispy, intensely flavorful onion flakes are made from Safrane Globe onions, a particularly sweet variety with a pungent bite. They are dried within days of harvesting, and the flavor is so caramelized and savory, it's hard to believe that the only ingredient is onions — but it is! The raw onions are prized for their size and firm texture, as well as their beautiful bronzed skin, and the drying process concentrates their natural sugars and deepens their flavor. These small, crunchy flakes are out-of-this-world delicious as a garnish or substitute for fresh onions in a cooked dish. They're also perfectly suited for savory breads and roasted proteins.

Who Made It: Burlap & Barrel partner directly with smallholder farmers to source spices that have never been available to the US before and help improve the livelihoods of their partner farmers. Their spices come from farms from the most passionate & knowledgeable spice farmers (and foragers) in the world.
