Soe Tray

A low, open basket with a woven handle on each side. Perfect for serving bread or fruit. Each basket has beautiful colors. Soe is the name of the village where these unique baskets are woven.

Who Made It: Local women who work with African Market Baskets in Bolgatanga, the largest town in the Upper east region of Ghana, supplement the family income by weaving baskets that are hand-woven using locally-grown straw. Basket weaving has helped bring much needed income to the villages surrounding Bolgatanga. The traditional skill has been handed down from generation to generation and provides employment to approximately 10,000 people, mostly women.
