To create these coastal-flavored decorative dishes, Kenyan artisans hand carve soapstone then add a hand dyed finish in a smoky slate blue tone. A bold black crab with etched details completes each dish.
Who Made It: Swahili Modern is a fair trade company that works directly with artisans in several African countries including Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda and Zambia. Artisan communities have reliable long-term income sources and it provides vital employment for rural women in particular.
